Clinical Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a deep state of concentration, which is associated with relaxation of the mind and the body. In this state, one has the opportunity to utilize one’s unconscious mind for constructive purposes, to strategize, problem-solve, and access inner strengths, feelings, and resources not ordinarily available. Hypnosis is a tool which may be combined with any type of psychotherapy, for example, psychodynamic therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy. Clinical hypnosis is the use of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes.
Clinical hypnosis addresses such issues as:

Somatic ExperiencingSomatic Experiencing is a short-term therapeutic technique developed by Dr. Peter Levine to heal trauma. It is based on the idea that during traumatic situations, energy is aroused, blocked from discharge, and stored in our bodies. With proper guidance, we are able to become aware of sensations in our bodies, learn to release and regulate energy, and restore ourselves to balance.
Somatic Experiencing is used to address issues such as the following:
- Trauma – single incident or ongoing incident (major or minor)
- Neglect
- Abuse - verbal or physical
- Accidents and/or falls
- Surgery
- Medical issues
- Pain
BrainspottingBrainspotting is a contemporary approach developed by Dr. David Grand.
This method is used to heal psychological and physical pain and/or symptoms through identifying the neurophysiologic origins.
Brainspotting is used to address issues such as the following:

Habit Disorders – treatment is tailored for the individual to maximize effectiveness. The unique motivation, concerns, needs, and patterns are addressed.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is an approach developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro to access, process, and resolve traumatic memories.
Anxiety
Anxiety - a state of uneasiness or of feeling threatened. This state has psychological, physiological, and behavioral reactions. Anxiety can be “free floating” (not associated with a particular situation) or it may be “situational” (associated with a particular situation).
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder is a state characterized by chronic worry. May include the following symptoms:
- muscle tension
- difficulty concentrating
- becoming tired easily
- difficulty sleeping
Phobias
Phobia – a condition involving fear and avoidance of the fearful situation.
- Animal phobia
- Elevator phobia
- Fear of flying
- Fear of driving

- Agoraphobia – fear of crowded places, confined places, public transportation, or being home alone (can develop from panic disorder).
Panic Disorder
Panic Disorder - a state characterized by panic attacks, in which the person experiences acute fear, seemingly without cause. The person becomes fearful of having another panic attack which limits the ability to participate in normal functions.
Panic attacks may be characterized by:
- shortness of breath
- heart palpitations
- sweating
- dizziness
- hot flashes or chills
- shaking or trembling
- fear of dying
- fear of losing control
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder - a condition in which there are psychological symptoms which may be disabling following a traumatic event:
- recurring memories of the event
- nightmares of the event
- flashbacks
- efforts to avoid feelings, thoughts, and situations associated with the event
- numbness emotionally
- feelings of detachment
