Stabilization Using Hypnotic Principles (3 hours)


Live Online Course via Zoom – 3 CE hours for NYS Licensed Social Workers 

This course is intended to educate and support people in health, mental health, and healing professions using ideas derived from hypnotic principles and positive psychology.

This course will focus on techniques for increasing stabilization and resilience, and diminishing anxiety, using tools primarily derived from clinical hypnosis.  The course will include both didactic presentation and demonstration. Participants will learn introductory ideas about clinical hypnosis, and will learn specific brief practical techniques for centering and grounding derived from hypnotic principles. We will discuss methods which contribute to enhancing the ability to cope. Participants will learn about the use of language and suggestion, and the importance of understanding and specifically addressing “self-talk.”  Utilizing ideas from clinical hypnosis and positive psychology, we will discuss how to access strengths and resources, and enhance affect regulation during this time of challenge.  We will focus on practices for maintaining healthy routines which maximize functioning and increase resilience. The practice of clinical hypnosis will not be taught in this course. (3 NYS CE hours)

Self-Hypnosis (6 hours)


Self-hypnosis is a powerful tool that can be used to alter affect, thoughts, behaviors, and self-experience. It can be used for many issues, such as self-esteem, anxiety, phobias, medical conditions and procedures, and habit control. With self-hypnosis, we can induce relaxation, do self-exploration, and strategize. This workshop will be both didactic and highly experiential. Participants will learn self-hypnotic techniques, how to design protocols, and when to train patients in self-hypnosis. We will discuss how self-hypnosis may be used for personal growth, to overcome obstacles, change behavior, to expand potential and envision new possibilities. (ASCH – 6 hours) (6 NYS CE Hours)

Hypnosis for Anxiety, Panic, and Phobias (3 hours)


Clinical hypnosis can be a very effective treatment for anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias.  Hypnotherapy can reduce symptoms, alleviate suffering, and address constricted and disabling behavior patterns. 

In this workshop, we will discuss how utilizing hypnosis, we can increase hope and optimism in order to diminish anxiety.  We will demonstrate protocols that increase the ability to self-soothe and regulate affect. We will discuss how to identify the triggers of symptoms and their origin, and to explore secondary gain. Using clinical hypnosis, we are able to develop coping strategies and diminish or eliminate symptoms. This workshop will be both didactic and experiential. (3 NYS CE Hours)

Hypnosis for Medical Issues


Hypnosis facilitates mind/body connection and healing and helps to access important internal resources.  Clinical hypnosis can be an effective treatment for a wide variety of medical problems, including skin disorders, gastrointestinal disorders and high blood pressure, and can be an adjunctive treatment for a wide variety of illnesses.  Hypnotherapy is used for preparation for medical procedures and surgery, and to alleviate side effects of medical treatment. Importantly, hypnosis can help people to cope emotionally with the challenges of illness. In this workshop we will discuss hypnotic approaches for specific medical issues, and how to design individualized treatment protocols. (3 NYS CE hours)

Hypnosis to Enhance Happiness and Optimism


The field of Positive Psychology shifts the profession’s focus from psychopathology and mental illness to the enhancement of positive emotions and traits, and establishing meaning in life. We will discuss how to integrate hypnotic methods with the applications of Positive Psychology so that we can be even more effective in enhancing optimism and happiness. We will be utilizing hypnotic ego-strengthening techniques and methods that enhance positive affect. The workshop is both didactic and highly experiential. Hypnosis experience suggested but not required.  (3 NYS CE hours)

Hypnosis for Affect Regulation


Hypnosis is ideally suited to modifying affect. In this workshop, we will address how to amplify positive affect, and how to manage affect dysregulation and difficult affects, such as anxiety, panic, hopelessness, irritability and anger. Both traditional protocols and contemporary approaches to treating over-reactivity will be included. We will have didactic presentation, demonstration, case examples, and discussion. Hypnosis experience is suggested but not required. (3 NYS CE hours)
